Dewey takes your privacy very seriously. We believe your reading history, private notes, and library are personal and should remain private.

Data Collection

Dewey does not collect personal reading data.

We do not have servers that store your books, reading sessions, notes, covers, ratings, or reading history. All library data is stored locally on your device and synced via your personal iCloud account if enabled. We do not have access to any of your content.

Anonymous Usage Analytics

Dewey offers optional anonymous usage analytics to help improve the app. Analytics are off by default, and there is no analytics or tracking prompt during onboarding. Analytics begin only if you enable Anonymous Analytics in Dewey Settings > Privacy, and you can disable them there at any time.

Events generated while analytics are off are discarded immediately. They are not buffered and are never uploaded after a later opt-in. Disabling analytics terminates collection and rotates the random app-scoped analytics installation identifier.

Analytics events only include low-cardinality, bucketed values such as screen names or coarse session-duration ranges. No book titles, authors, notes, ratings, ISBNs, search text, or other content you enter is sent.

Analytics are not linked to your identity, Apple ID, name, email, or any advertising identifier. Dewey does not link analytics with third-party data for advertising or advertising measurement, share them with data brokers, or use them to track you across apps or websites. Dewey does not access an advertising identifier or request App Tracking Transparency permission.

When you enable Anonymous Analytics, Dewey generates a random, app-only installation ID on your device solely to group analytics events within Dewey. It is not derived from personal information, is rotated when analytics are disabled, and is removed when you reset app data.

Dewey does not include crash-reporting or performance-monitoring analytics SDKs, and it does not collect crash stack traces or diagnostic reports.

Third-Party Services

Dewey uses the Google Books API for book lookup. When you search by title, author, or ISBN, or scan a barcode, that lookup request is sent to Google so matching book metadata can be returned. Your saved library, reading sessions, and private notes are not sent to Google by Dewey.

If iCloud sync is enabled, Apple handles syncing your library through your personal iCloud account. We do not have access to your iCloud data.

Dewey uses RevenueCat to validate App Store subscription receipts, prevent fraud, deliver Dewey Premium entitlements, and understand subscription performance. RevenueCat processes subscription purchase history using an anonymous app user identifier. Dewey does not associate that identifier or purchase history with your name, email address, Apple ID, or developer account, and it is not used for advertising tracking. Payment-card information is handled by Apple and is not collected by Dewey or RevenueCat.

Data Control

Dewey includes settings to export your library as CSV and delete all app library data and app preferences from the app. You can manage Anonymous Analytics in Dewey Settings > Privacy. Deleting app data also removes the anonymous analytics ID.
